Performance testing Liferay 5.1.0 on an Intel Core2 quad core machine running Linux

I have done some performance testing of Liferay 5.1.0 using JMeter. The results, the analysis and the areas for further investigation are available in the article.

After working with building a low power, energy efficient web server, I wanted to have a stab at building a powerful web server.

I am still in the process of configuring the web server, so I do not have all the details at the moment. More details on hardware and software will follow.

The machine contains a Intel Q9450 Quad CPU (2.67 GHz),8GB of RAM, and a 320 GB SATA disk. The cabinet is an Antec NSK4480B, with 80Plus power supply.

The machine is running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

When the machine is running under low load, i.e. CPU running at 2.0GHz, the measured energy consumption is about 90 W. When the CPU is running at 100%, the energy consumption is about 110 W.

Read more on the performance tfor this machine.

It has been almost a year since www.kanonbra.com was launched. In that period the energy consumption by the lower power web server hosting this site has been measured, and it is about 25 Watt, quite nice.

Read more about how to build a similar low power web server.

This site also hosts some useful RSS feeds, the most popular being the weather forecast feeds, based on data from yr.no. See how you can define your own feeds.

SqueezeCenter skin for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and N97 PDF

I have made a SqueezeCenter skin that is optimized for the screen resolution 640*360, which is what the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N97 mobile phones have.

The skin is based entirely on the iPeng plugin, which is a plugin and skin for Iphone. I have just adjusted for the larger screen resolution of the Nokia phones.

There are still some quirks and possible bugs to fix for the skin, but I think it works better than the original iPeng on the Nokia phones.

Install instructions :

1. Download and install the original iPeng plugin for SqueezeCenter, you can find it here.

2. Download my modified iPeng skin as tar.gz file or as zip file.

3. Go to the "Plugins/iPeng/HTML" directory, and move/rename the iPeng directory to "iPeng.org".

4. Unzip the modified iPeng skin, which will overwrite the existing iPeng skin. The downloaded file should be unzipped in the "Plugins/iPeng/HTML" directory.

4. Restart your SqueezeCenter

5. Point you mobile phone to "http://whatever/iPeng", and enjoy.

Things I want to improve

1. Name the skin "nokia5800", so that you can have both the iPeng and the nokia skin present for the iPeng plugin.

2. Fix the bug where the "Back" link in the upper left corner on the "Now playing" screen does not work.

3. Fix the problems with the main menu items on the main screen, these currently just makes some blue menu items with no text appear. The same problem appear when I test in Firefox on my pc.

Help on improving the skin, and suggestions are welcomed. Contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
