If you have an UPS and want to control it and monitor it, I suggest you use the Network UPS Tools (NUT).

I own a Eaton 9130 UPS, also known as Powerware 9130, and I have three options for using it with NUT. I can either use serial cable and the bcmxcp driver in NUT, or USB cable and the usbhid driver in NUT, or I can use SNMP. To be able to use SNMP, I have added a ConnectUPS-BD WEB/SNMP to my UPS, and configured it to expose SNMP data.

You can read more about the Eaton 9130 and NUT at the Nutwiki.

By default, OpenNMS supports monitoring the Eaton UPSes, which is using the Powerware MIB file. The data collection file for OpenNMS is at /etc/opennms/datacollection/powerware.xml, and it is provided in the standard OpenNMS installation. So it was just a matter of adding the UPS as a node in OpenNMS, and then it started to monitor my UPS.

Here are some example graphs from OpenNMS for my UPS
